Intimate hygiene: Microbiota and proper cleansing care to maintain its balance
A woman's intimate area is an extremely sensitive part of the body, requiring special care and gentle products formulated to maintain the natural balance of pH and intimate microbiota. It is often thought that frequent cleaning is a sign of cleanliness, but in fact, both lack of hygiene, excessive washing or the use of aggressive products can disrupt this delicate balance. When the intimate flora is unbalanced, the risk of irritation, infections and discomfort increases, which directly affect daily well-being.
The microbiota of the intimate area is a complex system, composed of many types of bacteria, where the main role is played by lactobacilli, the "guardians" of balance. These beneficial bacteria protect against harmful microbes and help maintain a healthy vaginal environment. When their number decreases, infections such as mycosis or bacterial vaginosis appear more easily, which are accompanied by itching, irritation, unpleasant odor and abnormal secretions.
Proper care for the intimate area is not only related to the feeling of cleanliness, but also to the overall health of the woman. A balanced hygiene helps maintain the protective flora, which functions as a natural barrier against harmful bacteria. In certain periods, such as during menstruation, pregnancy or after antibiotic treatments, this protection becomes more fragile, so it is essential to use appropriate formulas and respect some important daily habits such as:
· Washing the intimate area twice a day, morning and evening, is more than enough. Excessive cleaning can irritate the mucous membrane and alter the natural pH.
· Vaginal douches should only be used with medical advice, as frequent use can damage the balance of microbiota.
· After washing, the area should be rinsed well and gently dried. In case of dryness, a special moisturizing cream for the intimate area, with soothing and anti-irritant ingredients, can be used.
· Also, cleaning should always be done with clean hands, as sponges and towels can become breeding grounds for germs.
· Underwear should be changed every day and ideally be made of cotton, which allows the skin to breathe and protects against excess moisture.
· Very tight clothing or synthetic materials, on the contrary, can cause friction, irritation and favor the growth of harmful bacteria.
· During menstruation, it is necessary to regularly change protective equipment, such as pads, tampons, or menstrual cups, to avoid infections.
· If you notice any itching, burning, or unusual discharge, do not use over-the-counter products. Consulting a doctor is the safest way to find the cause and get the right treatment.
The balance of the microbiota is affected by many factors, such as the use of antibiotics, smoking, stress, hormonal changes (during pregnancy, menopause or contraceptives), as well as perfumed products or synthetic clothing. Also during the menstrual cycle, the pH of the vagina naturally changes, making the microbiota more sensitive.
Intimate care and daily hygiene is not about strong products or constant washing. The secret lies in gentleness, regularity and the careful selection of the right formulas. A woman's body has a smart self-regulating mechanism. Our task is to support it with healthy habits, special products and respect for the natural balance that protects our intimate health.
